Who was he?

About Danny

Daniel “Danny” Supensky, 66, a freelance artist, passed away on the evening of Saturday, September 14th, in his long-time family home. Born on December 20, 1957, in Akron, Ohio, Danny moved with his parents at a very young age to what would become his cherished home in Solvay

Starting at a young age, Danny drew and painted in oils, greatly inspired by his grandmother who was an excellent painter. He pursued art education throughout his school years, receiving the Balfour Award in Art upon graduation in 1976. He was awarded two scholarships and attended classes at Robert E. Lee College in Baytown, Texas. As a young adult, Danny was an active member of numerous art clubs.
In the 1970s, Danny traveled in his customized van throughout Colorado, southern Utah, and Arizona, painting mountains, rock formations, and deserts on location. He lived in various places around the country, winning awards wherever he went. Danny worked on 300lb. cold press watercolor paper for his acrylics, pen, and pencil works, which allowed him to bring out contrasts and details.
He enjoyed creating pen and ink drawings and watercolors of family homes, often adding personal touches like a family pet in the foreground, children looking out the window, or the family car in the driveway. Danny believed that families, even after moving away, could always keep something special from their time in their homes.
Danny found most of his clients by going door to door. Once commissioned, he was often seen painting on the sidewalk, sitting on a bucket, and wearing a straw hat. His passion was to influence the world with his art, one family at a time. From pen and ink to pastel paints, he captured the essence of “Home is where the heart is.” His parents, Evelyn and Alwin Supensky, were proud of him and his accomplishment
In 2022, Daniel mentioned that he never had his paintings on display at the New York State Fair. Danny went on to participate as one of the “Artist in Residence” during the 2022 NYS Fair, showcasing his process and won 2nd place for his Cock-A-Doodle-Doo painting. His paintings were also on display during the 2023 and 2024 NYS Fair. Daniel was found to have the pictures he planned to paint for the 2025 Fair on his table in his studio.
Daniel took pride in all of his works, including landscaping for those who couldn’t do it themselves, such as the retired, elderly, and family members. He often visited his son Joshua’s home, which he shared with Chastity, to help with painting, mowing the lawn, trimming bushes, weed-whacking, and anything else they needed. Besides his art, Danny found lifelong joy in fishing. Whether he caught something or not, he relished every opportunity to cast his line.

Danny’s manic humor and eccentric nature always brightened your day and kept you laughing. He loved showing off his work, often bringing albums full of his past, recent, and current creations. Danny was impactful, a true force. Whether he was carrying his grandkids or great nieces and nephews on his shoulders or chasing them around, he always made the kids laugh.
He never needed to be asked to help; he simply did. Enjoying company, he would leave the lights on, the bed made, and the door unlocked for any family member who needed it. Danny always carried his camera, and even if he occasionally forgot it in the car, he would make sure to mention it and then go grab it. He didn’t want to miss capturing the moment. Perhaps because he was from an older generation, he made sure to print his pictures out, always having extra copies to hand out.
Daniel loved life. In February 2021, he had a health scare that led to him being intubated and put on comfort care. As people were saying their goodbyes, he pulled through. Despite the doctors’ predictions, he lived happily for several more years. You couldn’t stop Danny; he did things the doctors wouldn’t approve of, but he surprised many of us with what he was willing and able to do. He passed away suddenly, just as he wanted, not in a hospital but at home, a place he loved. He will be missed, but Daniel lived a life well-lived and is now at peace.

Daniel was the beloved husband to his predeceased wife, Elizabeth Supensky, who passed on May 3rd 2003. Loved by all and missed by so many people to mention them all, Daniel Supensky left behind siblings Sharon (Mark) Neuman, Gary (Jackie) Supensky, and Mary (John) Gilbert. Children Natasha “Steve” Supensky and Joshua “Chastity” Supensky. Grandchildren, Cyric Johnston, Eriel, Akadieon, Demetria, Nicodemus, Ambrose, & Dominicke Cartner, Ruby Pino, and Phillip Mattiaccio.

The family held a gathering on Sunday October 6th,2024 from 12-330 pm at the VFW Post 3146, 2000 Lemoyne Ave, Syracuse, NY 13208. Thank you all that came, helped set-up, brought food, and enjoyed their time and other’s food.

As the other artist in our family, I will miss chatting about art stuff with Danny. I was looking forward to asking him about the recent pieces that he had in the NY State Fair exhibition. I was very excited for him to have so many pieces on display for the whole state to see! Wherever he is now, I hope it's always sunny and his paints never run dry! See you around, cousin.
